Highlighting headings using effects
Add visual emphasis to your headings by applying highlight effects to specific words. This feature allows you to create eye-catching section titles that draw attention to key terms while maintaining a clean, professional appearance.
How to Apply Heading Highlights
- Navigate to any section with a heading
- Click the heading text to edit
- Select the word(s) you want to highlight
- Choose the "Italic" effect from the text formatting options
The default effect can be configured in Theme Settings -> Heading effect. (It can also be overwritten on a per-section basis.)
Available Effects
- None: As expected, no effect is applied
- Default: The default effect is configured in your main Theme Settings -> Heading effect
- Italic Font Override: Choose a different font to use for the highlighted text
- Circle: Draws a solid line circle around your highlighted word or phrase
- Circle (Pencil): Draws a pencil circle around your highlighted word or phrase
- Underline: Draws an underline for your highlighted word or phrase
- Underline (Pencil): Draws an underline for your highlighted word or phrase
- Marker: Draws an marker style for your highlighted word or phrase
- Tilted Marker: Draws an tilted marker style for your highlighted word or phrase
Best Practices for Heading Highlights
To achieve the most professional results with heading highlights:
Recommended Usage
- Highlight 1-2 key words maximum
- Apply highlights consistently across similar sections
- Test appearance on both desktop and mobile devices
- Use highlights to emphasize action words or important terms
Not Recommended
- Highlighting entire phrases or sentences
- Using multiple highlight effects in one heading
- Applying highlights to every heading
- Highlighting secondary headings (H3 and smaller)

Good examples:
- "Discover Our Latest Collection"
- "Shop Premium Essentials"
Less effective examples:
- "Discover Our Latest Summer Collection" (too many words)
- "Shop Premium Essentials" (too many highlights)
Troubleshooting
If your heading highlights aren't appearing as expected:
- Ensure you've saved your changes
- Check that you've selected the correct effect
- Verify that highlights are enabled in your theme settings
- Clear your browser cache if changes aren't visible
